Gimme weird

June 27th, 2006

I’m curious to know about something you may do that others would find strange. I’ll go first.

I talk to my friends while I’m taking a shower. I have a ledge for the phone and everything. My shower kicks on, and I dial that baby. I do it because it’s private, and it lets me relax even more than standing under hot water, well.. washing myself.

Okay, I gave it up. Your turn.

All tied up

This weekend was incredibly proactive. Saturday was filled with much grocery shopping, which of course, included a stop at my favourite store of all time, lunch at Monteaux, and a little shopping at the mall. We went and scoped the bed we really want, and then I saw it. It hit me like a ton of bricks. THE SALE OF A CENTURY ON EVERY GIRL PRODUCT KNOWN TO MAN, Y’ALL. And yes, I was so excited I HAD TO USE ALL CAPS! All I saw was red tags, prices slashed up to 75%, etc! I headed in. The gal handed me a bag on the way in, and I gladly accepted. This place is heaven. I bought this, this, this, and a good number of others, for about $30. Score. Matt walked in amongst this onsalught, and wanted to run away. It was madness, and I was on a mission. But thankfully, I got enough skin stuff to last me for the rest of my natural life. Go me.

Saturday evening, Matt and I had dinner with a girlfriend of mine and her husband. We went to our favourite sushi restaurant, then headed a few blocks down and went to see a really great comedy improv at Comedy Sportz. It was a blast. Today was spent in absolute misery, my flesh melting away from my corpse as the inferno that was/is my apartment reached temperatures of 100+ F. Misery! I beat the heat, however, with washing my car out under a shade tree. The ice cold water felt good. Tonight, Matt and I made a chicken with olive oil, rosemary, and lemon. Tres yummy. I played some WoW for an hour or so, and here I am now, telling you about my weekend. I really have no idea how I’m going to sleep tonight. It’s still pretty warm in our apartment. Installing that window unit is becoming more and more of a reality…

I think I like becoming less and less of a hermit. I’m enjoying getting out more with friends. I need to definitely do it more, I think. Oh, speaking of which, I have a question I must pose to you. C and I were discussing sun tea, and we couldn’t figure out why sun tea is a million times better than say, instant tea? It’s definitely not a figment of my imagination - I truly think it tastes better. What does the sun do to the tea that makes it taste good?

Week 3

June 24th, 2006

I started this week out okay, following my points carefully. Where I sort of messed up was not making time for myself to work out. The problem that I’ve been having lately is trying to find a balanace between work and exercising. Work as of late, is just exploding. Between working overtime and taking files home, I feel like I have no time for myself. I need to find a balance. Really, I could. I mean, what’s thirty minutes? I sit in World of Warcraft for at least an hour, so I suppose I shouldn’t be making excuses about time being the issue. My motivation is likely the culprit. By the time I get home, I’m blargh.

Oh, and we had salty delicious well-over-my-point-allotment Mexican food last night for dinner.

If anyone has any advice on how to balance a very stressful job that requires lots of time that pretty much makes your mind melt by the time you get home and what needs to be done, such as taking a thirty minute walk, please let me know. I’d be all about any advice you may have. So, with that:

Started: June 3rd, 2006
Beginning weight: 289.5
As of June 24, 2006: 283.5
Gained this week: +1 lb
Total lost: 6 lbs

(edit: My weight tracker in the WW site got screwed up, so I’m making the correction now. The weights/calculations are going to look different from week two.)

My new word lately, is the word ‘wee.’ As in, “What a wee little thing.”

But not

June 21st, 2006

I’m tired, but not.
I’m restless, but not.
I’m annoyed, but not.
I’m frustrated, but not.
I’m a mixed bag of emotions, but not.
I’m feeling glad, but not.
I’m feeling all sorts of things that don’t make any sense.

I should just go to bed.

Stroller fun

This past weekend, Matt and I spent time with Maysen. His parents went to California for the weekend and had a great time - except for that near death part. Read more about that here.

Admittedly, I was nervous to spend the entire weekend with Bean. I don’t have a lot of experience with children, so I feared something jacked would happen, like, oh, I dunno, my maternal instinct wouldn’t be there. I wouldn’t know how to comfort him if he got upset, or I wouldn’t know when to feed or change him. All that was worry over nothing, however. I just didn’t realize it until day two. Day was one nuts. I walked around a nervous wreck, practically ripping poor Matt’s head off the second he opened his mouth - especially if it was after I laid Maysen down. Talking was a no go in the one hundred foot perimeter of Bean’s bedroom. Then, that night, I had this jacked up dream I couldn’t shake, and found myself reading CNN at 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Saturday itself, brought a lot of fun. It included taking a walk, and playing ball in the back yard. Maysen showed me all of his toys. We hung out in his room some. Seeing him smile at things I did, and the fact that he didn’t fuss hardly at all made me confident I was doing something right.

The weekend brought many smiles and laughs, sure to not be forgotten. I taught Maysen how to say “Jenn,” we smile and laughed a lot together, and played lots of games. I got a lesson in how to clean apple sauce out of a rug, after Maysen decided he wanted to control the spoon, and I got to comfort a little fussing when he decided to bail out of his crib four minutes after laying him down. Who knew he knew how to build steps out of stuffed animals?

I took a lot of pictures over this past weekend, and put up some of my favourites on Flickr. Check out the slideshow!
