Self portrait

Me, myself, and I

I like being on the other side of the camera. You know, the ones where I’m the one taking the photo of said object. This past weekend, I thought I’d be the subject for a change. I liked this one of myself. I’m kind of blown away at how much I look like my mother.

Go ask Alice when she’s ten feet tall

I have to tell you something. Grace Slick rocks my world. Everything about her voice turns my crank. Oh, I’m forgetting about Ms. Joplin. Her gravelly voice is hard, smoky, and everything rock and roll should be. I grew up on classic rock. Growing up in rural Kansas, you didn’t have much choice, so I opted for Pink Floyd, Hendrix, and the Doors to keep me company. To date, there’s not a lot out there right now that does it for me. At least, not much of the mainstream stuff. I listen to the radio, and I’m… not excited by any of it.

I know I’ve posted stuff about this before, but hearing Ms. Slick croon away tonight has me wishing there was more out there like her. Or that maybe I was 19 back in ‘68.

Merry Christmas

A *very* merry Christmas

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and all that. Took a bunch of pictures over the holiday; figured you might want to check them out.

In the dark

Candle

Last night, around 8pm, the power went out for a very large area in which I live. (If you’re curious as to why, it wasn’t because of the nasty storm we had up here a few days ago, but because of a substation explosion. If you’re really interested in seeing fire and carnage, check it out at my local news station, katu.com. Anyway, there wasn’t much else to do, so I decided to have a little fun, and take some photos in the darkness of my living room. You can check them out here.

Say wha?

I think I talked about this last year, but I don’t really understand how people can be offended by things dealing with Christmas, if it has a religious undertone to it. For example, a coworker was talking about how she wanted to decorate our department, and I overheard her say, “Well, reindeer should be okay - it’s not overly religious.”

Huh? Christmas = Christ Mass. I guess I don’t get it.

I should make motivational posters

Winter is here

I’ve been feeling strangely productive today. I started off this stint by going on a photo walk over lunch. I’ve also managed to plan out my Christmas list. This weekend, it’s on. Apartment, please meet Pledge. Also on the agenda is a couple projects I’m working on, a trip to Target, and a game plan on a massive amount of baking I’m going to do.

For some jacked up reason, “Bittersweet Symphony” by The Verve’s got me motivated. Go fig.
